Today in class we went over our homework and had a little 10 question pop quiz , it was easy and Rome is very interesting. Mr.Shick seems to be feeling a lot better already !


 Consul: A consul is like a king in that he commanded armies and directed the government.  Rome had two and they could only rule for one year and not be elected again for ten years.
Veto: Means “I forbid” and is a way to overrule another consuls decisions.

Senate: Was the aristocratic branch of Rome’s government.
Assembly: Was the democratic side of Rome’s government.  It consisted of all the citizen-soldiers of 
Rome.
Dictator: Only used in times of crisis, a dictator had absolute power to make laws and command the
army.  Their power only lasted six months.  They were chosen by the consuls and elected by the
senate.
Mercenary: Soldiers who fight for a country for pay.

Today

Today in class was a lot of fun. Instead of watching a movie though we read a little article because we are starting Rome. There is a few questions that need to be answered below. BTW feel better mr.shick.

  • Patrician - specially privaleged families; they dominated Roman cities, rich person. upper class 
  • Plebian - free citizans with rights, including voting, rich powerful people
  • Legion - a big  military of 4,000-6,000 soldiers
  • Century - 100 years
  • Republic - political unit, not ruled by a monarchy, where citizans have the right to vote
  • Gravitas - discipline strength and loyalty 
  • Pater Familias - father of the family, owns everything , could kill anyone in family, a lot of power , runs everything 
  • Toga - an  garment of clothing. Usually a large wool blanket, 

1. Rome was built on a lot of hills so that helped them when in battle.
2. They were all the big founders , Latins were the first settled the starting then the Greeks for religion and then the Etruscans were last

Today in class we went over everything for the test wed on Greece. I got a lot of notes and have been studying a lot so I hope I do well !!

We watched a movie today and took notes on it. It was interesting and I really enjoyed it.
